All LED`s require a resistor in series to limit the current to the required specification (usually 20mA)
Use ohm`s law to calculate the value of the resistor required. Most LED`s have a voltage drop of 2 volts.
Blue & white LED`s are 3.5-4 volts
V = IR (volts = current (amps) x resistance)
For a 12 VDC supply voltage @ 20mA the required resistor would be:
10 (volts)  / .02 (amps) = 500 ohms
LED`s are suitable for DC ONLY
